In 2021 the Miami Heat went 34-18 finishing ahead of the Orlando Magic (32-20) for 1st place in the Southeast Division. This was also tied with the Brooklyn Nets for the best record in the conference but the Nets had the tiebreaker meaning the Miami Heat entered the playoffs as the #2 seed. In the 1st round of the playoffs the Miami Heat took a 3-1 lead over the 7th seeded New York Knicks (26-26) who would then go on to win 3 straight and eliminate the Miami Heat from the playoffs.

In 2023 the Miami Heat went 59-23 Finishing behind the Atlanta Hawks(70-12) in the Southeast Division. The Heat also finished behind the New York Knicks (62-20) leading to the Heat entering the playoffs as the #3 seed. In the First round the Miami Heat matched up against the #7 seed Brooklyn Nets (44-38) and won the first two games of the series by 6 each. The Nets fought back and won games 3 and 4 by a combined score of 15 to tie the series at 2 games each. The Heat went on to win the next two games to advance to the 2nd round for the first time in franchise history.

In the 2nd round the Heat matched up with the #2 seed Knicks in a rematch of the Heat's only playoff series the season prior. The Heat got off to a slow start losing the first game of the series 119-105. After dropping the next game 118-115 the Heat returned home down in the series 2-0. Jesse Rodriguez was on fire in game 3 dropping 75 points 3 rebounds 3 assists 1 steal and 4 blocks to win 150-123. Jesse Rodriguez had the 2nd best game in franchise history which included him scoring the 2nd most points in Heat history only behind a 76 point game against the Golden State Warriors earlier this season. This game for Rodriguez was also the best game in the playoffs in franchise history and the most points in a playoff game in franchise history. The Heat then lost the next two games by a combined 38 points to lose the series 4-1. The Heat have now been knocked out of the playoffs by the Knicks for both of the first two seasons in league history with each loss coming against a different Knick's owner. With this being the case the Heat are developing a bit of a hatred for the Knick's organization. If the two sides can remain competitive and Miami can even the score in the postseason we may be looking at the birth of a rivalry between the two eastern conference teams.
